Bamboo is very popular from ancient times till now. Bamboo is made into bamboo products. There are bamboo beds, chairs and so on. It’s all because bamboo has the meaning of keeping peace. Let’s see what history is like.
During the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty, Zheng He was stationed in Changle many times to wait for the wind to sail. Zheng He went to Kuzhu Village in the outskirts of Changle City to enjoy the scenery of Linghongtan Waterfall. He saw a big stream with muddy water and no sand. The two sides were rugged and barren of grass. The collapse of rivers and dams, the collapse of sand and rocks, flooded farmland and crops, and suffered the people on both sides. People in the village build dams every year. Every year the dyke is washed down by the flood. People complain about it for days, but they can’t help it. After Zheng He saw it, he taught the local people a good recipe. Zheng He mobilized local people to plant bamboo forests on Xiba. From winter to spring, bamboo shoots burst out of the soil and were deeply embedded in the soil. It soon grew into a large bamboo forest.
When the rainy season comes, muddy floods roar down and hit the dams. But they never broke the dikes, kept the rivers and dams, and saved the villages. As a result, the rivers and ditches became harmful, irrigating the crops and bringing farmers on both sides of the Taiwan Strait a bumper year after another. On New Year’s Day, people in the village paste a couplet of “flowers blossom rich” and “bamboo repays peace” on the lintel. This story also shows that bamboo has strong growth and soil consolidation.
